OK I saw an article that those little curly things they have wrap around well on fishing string or wire. I had one bought a regular trellis and I had to use that green self sticking fastening stuff for plants. It looked awful. So I pulled it out and had I seen the site I could have eadily, because my husband and sons fish, added that string because we have it, onto existing trellis which is currently in the shed, and saved the plant. Because you are right they will grow on the ground if they have nothing to grasp and climb up. So if you are handy and have some spare wood and want to make a simple trellis the trick is the fishing stfing. Then those curly things can hold on. In the article the gentleman was an older Englishman with a beautiful garden and he showed the trellis that he made and uses and he specified the fishing string. Then he showed it later in the seadon, wow it was loaded and looked beautiful.

Does it have something to climb higher then it is now?

You can help the vines to "climb" higher by insuring it has a path to follow. Add a trellis or wire mesh or fishing line to the height you'd like the vine to grow, then on about at least a weekly basis help the vine wrap onto the mesh/line by helping it to attach by weaving it onto whatever you have installed. In that way it will attach instead of growing onto itself at a lower level. I hope this is written clearly enough to be of help to you. After you do this for a month or so, the vines will attach themselves to what has been installed.
