How far did you cut them back? I cut mine way back two years ago and last year had no blooms. Last year I cut them back just a little after flowering would have been over and this year I have a small showing. Am hoping next year to have a bunch. I will only cut them back a little bit again after flowering in the late summer/fall.
Aw...that's the problem. Never cut your hydrangeas down. You have no flowers this year, but this Autumn just tie them up with twine and leave them over winter. In the Spring you will see where the new buds are. Now just cut the stalks that are totally dead and have no buds. You should have flowers next year. So in the future if you want hydrangeas next year, never, ever cut them back until the following Spring. And then only dead main stalks
Chances are you have a variety that blooms on old wood, with proper watering, and a good feeding the blooms should be back next year.
I ran into that problem this year as well, so I'll be very interested in the answers.
try some garden acid It comes in a box you mix with water. I think the brand is Miracle Grow.
They bloom on old wood for sure...I had to cut three of them down to the ground in my back yard area for the house to be painted, painters needed access to the siding all the way to the ground...yes they are greening out nicely this year but I know they take a couple of years to bloom again...no worries...
