Sounds like you had a good idea, but your succulents need very little water and since the leaves are turning yellow and that sounds like they were over watered. Give them some time and don't water for several days and then only water slightly ...they may snap out of it.
Try letting it dry out.
Succulents retain the moisture through there leaves.Try re-potting them with fresh dry succulent soil and see if they come back

I agree with them. If it starts to drop leaves, re-pot it in a commercial mix designed for succulents.
