Mystery Plant???
Can anyone please tell me the name of this plant with purple flowers? I planted it many years ago and I have forgotten its name. It comes back every year and the flowers close up at night time. I thought that it was some type of Japanese Iris but I just can't remember. Thanks!

Because of the long leaves, I believe it's a spiderwort. Probably Virginia rather than Ohio because of the color. Nice plant!
This a spiderwort from what I see in the picture. They bloom in the mornings and evenings.I may be wrong but, I think it's a bulb and can divided for more plants.
Spiderwort is a spring-blooming plant with long, strappy leaves and blue-purple buds. Native to North America, South America, and Central America, it's a beloved addition to any garden thanks to its easy care and weeks-long bloom period. Spiderwort is characterized by a messy, grass-like form (its leaves can grow up to two feet in height each season) punctuated with quarter-sized flowers that last only one day. Luckily, each plant produces many buds throughout spring and into early summer. When cracked open, the stem of the spiderwort secrets a white, sticky substance that becomes thread-like and silky once hardened (similar to a spider's web), thus coining its unusual common name.
Spiderwort for sure. Beautiful!
That beauty is a Spiderwort and she's such a rewarding little thing. She gets her name from the web-like structures that form when her stem gets broken.
Spiderwort, beautiful blooms, long dense leaves. We see this in the north east.

It looks like spiderwort to me but I use the free phone app iNaturalist to help identify mystery plants.
Looks like my morning glories.
Spiderwort, definitly! Also known as "widow's tears" because blooms spring anew each morning.
Thanks everyone for all of your help. I am thinking that it is the Virginia Spiderwort plant. I really appreciate all of your help! I hope that everyone had a lovely Mother's Day yesterday! 😊😊😊
I grow spiderwort in my garden. It spreads more and more each year and loves shade/partial shade. If you need to cover some space they divide easily and dont get too stressed out over it.
I Personally hate this "flower"! IT GROWS LIKE A WEED. It seems to pop up more & more. Each season. I did not plant them, but the more I pull up the more I seem to get the next year!! I inherited the stuff with the house we bought a few years ago. Many surprises in gardening.
