Kerri Esten on May 12, 2015Dianthus is related to the Carnation. The deer don't eat them (hooray!) and they're pretty hardy. Mine come back year after year and have even bloomed in the snow.Helpful Reply

Lisa McDaniel on May 12, 2015I have several of them , one I forgot about and thought it had died but we have had a very wet year so far and it came back. I have some that have came back for 4 years now and one that hasn't. I've found there are hardy ones and ones not so hardy Just make sure to read the label . The leaves on the one that I thought was dead looks similar to yours, but my other ones leaves are different. The ones that I've had no problem with are Mounding Perennials - !0 Frosty Fire Dianthus which is a deep red and 2) Early Bird Chili Dianthus, which is my favorite . It is a salmon color, very pretty. The one that didn't do well - EverLast Lavender + Eye Dianthus a pale pink. Tho it says it'll come back year after year I've only gotten leaves, no flowers.Helpful Reply
