I do recommend that you ask someone, such as a Gardner, or even an arborist.
People at the garden centre will not have a good clue, they are not trained in plant identification. They are trained on how to sell you something which usua means ( Reading the back of the product).
Waiting for it to flower will tell all. If it is indeed milkweed, save it for the Monarchs. They have been devastated by the use of insecticide and need all the help they can get. I have not seen a single one in over 5 years and I have tons of butterfly weed out in my garden for them. So sad. Save the seed and share it.
Milkweed generally has a matte finish on the leaves around here. But take your photos and height estimate to your local Coop Extension Office, they have experts who can usually identify plants in your locale,
Maximilian sunflower. I have some. They get up to 8 ft. and have small yellow daisy-like flowers up the stalk. They bloom late summer. Very nice in the right place but no d of invasive.
Check with your local college botanist or Forestry. Looks like a form of "Lady's Thumb" (which does not always have a dark spot on the leaves). If so, it is VERY INVASIVE. Weed is in the eye of the beholder. Lady's Thumb does flower but like I said it is very invasive and will take over your garden in no time.
My rule of thumb is - give it a tug - if it is a weed the roots should come free way too easily. I say this because we know that it is for sure NOT a dandelion!

Could be that haunting sumac weed if it gets tall and gets maroon berries in the Fall. If it is, many have historically made dye from its berries.

I think it's a weed. If it were a flower, you'd expect some buds/blooms by now. Take 1 leaf to the nursery and they'll tell you.
I know its a weed, because I'm always pulling that one out of my garden.
