Sweet potato vines

I had beautiful sweet potato plants last summer and they got huge. I don't know why but I thought they were perennial and I would have them again without any fuss. I read an article that showed you could start one from a while potato e with eyes. Will I get the same kind of plants this way or do I need to buy the shoots from my gardening shop ?I

You should be able to do it. I grow potatoes that I plant that start to grow in my house, so I would think you could do it with sweet potatoes if you have one that starts to grow.

Here is one of mine from last year. I just started more a week or so ago. Just get a couple out of the market and plop in a glass of water. When all chances of frost have passed, plant in the garden. I let mine go in a certain area, I have it more for being pretty to fill in foliage than for actual potatoes, but I did get a decent crop!
Growth comes from the eyes. I usually have plenty of potato houseplants from forgetting they are in the pantry until they have lots of eyes. In the House, I put 1/2 of a white or sweet potato in a quart jar, supported at the rim with toothpicks. For outside, it just takes a chunk with an eye or two for each plant. While you might get an accidental plant to come up, all vegetables are annuals. You have to replant each year. Best wishes ☺️
