Definitely Rose of Sharon. Many will self-seed profusely.

Rose of Sharon...I agree with Nancy from Ohio... I now have lots of sprouts, some 15 to 20 feet away from the mother plant.

Thankyou all for your answers my 67 yr old mother in law said the blossoms are signitaniosly green pods which she told me it was a hawthorne tree which I looked up and it's exactly the same thanks again for all your input

I have already said that I believe it is a rose of sharon but you seem to think it is a hawthorn. I do not see that at all.
