Topiary?
You just have to get in there and start trimming using lopers and long pole trimmers on holly. I have even used my sawzaw on thick holly branches, and sprayed the stump to try and kill some of it off.
Sometimes you can use an electric hedge trimmer on some bushes. And I use hand pruners to shape the bushes,,,, I like a crowned shape myself.
Electric Trimmer will make it go fast. Just decide on the height you want, trim , then shape the sides. Walaaa! You are done.
I use hedge trimmers that you have to charge, their time consuming to use. Got them in Home Depot. When shrubs really get out of control, I use hedge trimmers.
