Lavender has kept the deer out of my gardens. I use the plants as a boarder.
They do not marigolds.
What kind of plants? Trees? Shrubs? Flowers? You can find lists of plants that deer don't care for. Just Google it. But when the deer are hungry enough they don't abide by the list!

Garlic and chili peppers😂
But deer do eat many flowers, such as those growing in fields and pastures, and your flowerbeds. And they will eat almost any fruits and vegetables they can get their mouths around. Other than the lavender and marigolds suggested by other Hometalkers, I will throw in sunflowers. Sunflowers are seldom in pots at the nursery, ready to set out. But the seeds germinate quickly and grow fast, too. The taller they get, the better, but make sure they don’t throw other plants into the shadows. Happy gardening! ☺️
