Hi Karen. Dogwoods are very short lived trees. They are very sensetive to disease and sun. Once diseased, it is best to remove the tree. I’ve never known a dogwood to recover from anything. If you do choose to replace it with another dogwood, be sure it’s in a shadier spot and if it’s close to the diseased one, wait at least 1 year before planting.

Trim off all diseased areas and put the debris in the garbage so that it does not spread to other plants. Be sure to clean up the ground around the shrub so that the rain does not redistribute the spores to the shrub again. If it is a mildew type, there are sprays to counteract this problem.
