When is the best time to prune cherry trees back and how far is safe.

    I would always do it spring and fall. You always trim to the first leaf, but leave just a bit, so you don't cut the leaf off. Be sure you trim very well, in the spring, for the suckers will drain the strength, of the tree, if you don't. Best wishes, J.
