When to divide petunias?

I have been given a beautiful hanging pot of petunias for Mother's Day! It is full, and I was wondering do I need to divide it, to give it space to continue growing and blooming or is a Petunia the type of plant that doesn't need a lot of root space.

You don't have to divide it, just water and enjoy.

Hi Teresa! It's beautiful! I agree with Joan, I wouldn't divide it. My hanging petunias require a lot of water. I think the way they are planted, they just don't retain a lot of water. So water well and definitely, enjoy it! It's very pretty!

Should I also use Miracle Grow on it? I read that you can burn some plants with the stuff!

I use Miracle Grow all the time, Teresa. It's never bothered my flowers at all. Just be sure to remove the dead flowers. Mine did great when we lived in Texas until about mid July and it just got too darned hot for them. We live in Missouri now and they'll hang on until about mid August.

Hi Ladies have you heard of Wave Petunias? They are what I buy for my large containers, they spread like crazy and you don't have to dead head them!
