Worms love coffee grounds, and we know they are really helpful to garden soil health. The finer the egg shells are ground, the easier it is for the calcium to be used in the soil. If you have slugs or snails, you need to have some on the soil that are crushed, but not a powder, in order to keep them at bay.

Coffee adds acid and retains water. Egg shells add calcium and are very helpful in breaking up clay soil. I have used both for almost 50 years. Big day was Breakfast on menu at the soup kitchen and getting about 50 dozen egg shells!

Ground egg shells provide calcium to soil and help prevent blossom rot, while crushed shells help deter snails and slugs. Coffee grounds act as a slow release fertilizer adding minerals such as potassium, phosphorous, magnesium and copper. They also release nitrogen into the soil. Add a tablespoon of each to planting holes then mix a little into the soil surrounding the plants once a week. Place crushed cells around plants.
