Why do my hostas always look so terrible in August

    If I knew where you live it might be easier to answer. Might also like to know what 'look so terrible' means.

    If it has been exceedingly hot for a while where you are, your hostas might be entering a summer dormancy period where the leaves droop and tips turn brown. If it's been too cold, they might be experiencing early dormancy with the same symptoms plus full leaf die-off.

    There's not much else that bothers a hosta other than too much sun, and I don't think you moved them, or you would have mentioned that.

    In any case, I don't believe it is anything to worry about long term.

    Pretty natural ... will look worse in December .... then better in the Spring.
