In some parts of the country it has been chilly for a while but in our neck of the woods we just got our second frost of the season and because we love to garden year round this was a great solution for keeping our gardening steam going in the fall and winter! You can make your own DIY Seedling Heat Mat and this project literally cost us very little as we found most of what we needed for free!

This project goes very quickly so it is one of those projects you can do in an afternoon and have instant gratification.
Materials for this project: stainless steel tray pipe heating cable (12-15ft) thermostat gravel potting soil/soil amendment mix electrical outlet plug
Your seeds will quickly grown into beautiful seedlings :)

I will have to try this. Our springs are so wet, this year has really been bad, and if I had a cable, i could get a head start on the vegetable garden.

Are there instructions here? I'm looking at this like six years later... do you just put the soil heater in a tray with pebbles/cat litter and put that under the tray? Because none of the instructions are showing up...
