Advantages of raised square foot gardening?

Aesthetics, virgin soil, level planting area, multi-level planting by having plants around it and in it, easily separated sections for vegetables and so on.

I use about 14" high, MAIN reason, a board across the space between, and I SIT to garden, sliding along as I go. Beats bending over or on your knees.

They are much easier to work on with less bending. Higher beds are good for physically challenged people.

raising the bed warms the soil... burying a large pot can do the same. Irrigation is more easily controlled (it drains better) when raised. There are other advantages, and many are plant specific.

At the end of the season, by removing the boards, you can easily cultivate the area for next year.

The raised beds allow for better control of the soil in the beds and they look more organized as well.... they ARE still too short for me, as I don't like bending over so far to work on the weeds, etc.

Our favorite way to do raised gardening is the galvanized horse/stock tanks/troughs.... tall enough and deep enough and movable if you have to (just dump the dirt out onto a tarp)
