How to get more apple buds on my delicious apple tree?

One thing we did was give our apple trees spikes out about as far out as their branches reach (to guess about the length of the roots) , they need iron to produce lots of apples. Also, remember every other year they have a lean year and every other year produce more. I hope this helps. The spikes can be purchased at any garden/nursery store where supplies are sold. Look for fruit tree spikes or esp. apple tree spikes. Give them lots of water too. We water from rain water saved as well as the hose as needed, even when they are full grown (we have a dry climate)

Hi Joy, I'm Cindy. Yes, I have a tip for you. As you may know, bees are on their way to becoming extinct. We have had declining numbers in the last few years. You may want to self-pollinate your apple trees. I self-pollinate my vegetable garden. It's easy. Just give the branches slight "jiggling" so that pollen from one bud will fall on another bud. For my tomato plants, I either flick the stalks or lightly shake them. It has made huge differences when harvesting. I read that un-pollinated plants will yield 10% - 15% of the plant's capacity. Pollinated plants will yield 90% - 95% of its capacity. Crazy, right? Big difference. Wishing you all the best.

Pruning helps a lot. The amount of flowers in the spring is determined by what happens the previous year. Make sure your apple tree is getting plenty of water during the summer and fall, and prune in the winter to open up the area in side the canopy of the tree. Apple trees are pruned so that the branches form a ladder shape. This allows more light to hit the tree's interior and it will naturally produce more flowers. Good luck!
