Egg cartons are too shallow. Would rather not use plastic or styrofoam. Something eco friendly?

The make pots made of peat. But you still may want to place them into a plastic cup. Remember you can reuse items as well such as yogurt cups.

Hot cup holder. You may have to staple the seam.

That's a good idea as well. I wanted something a little deeper, this could work. Thanks!

Toilet paper rolls. Just bend in one end to close, stuff in one Kleenex or a few sheets of tp, add potting soil, a few seeds, stand up in a glass or plastic dish or box. Sprinkle from the top, add more water at the bottom. When you have plants with roots and green leaves, plant in the ground or a larger container. Cardboard biodegrades, as does tissue, and adds stability to the soil until it does. Best wishes ☺️

you can make containers from newspaper or cardboard tubes (think toilet rolls, cut up paper towel rolls) My father always used margarine tubs to start the seeds, then transplanted into large flat plant trays

Great idea! And they'd be deep enough for seedlings to grow beyond just a few days, probably biodegradable as well! I just looked at a covered tray I have, the ones with the tiny little seed plug holes and I think tp tubes might just fit perfectly in the tray with the plug holder removed! Thanks, Holly!
