Squirrels, and other small animals also drink and play in the birdbath. I also have a fountain, with the same problem.
Hi Susan. I have a water softener and my house plants do just fine.
Yes I do it all of the time with no problem
20 years in the Softening business, and I would NOT advise using the softened water for MOST plants. African Violets thrive on it though. Use your Reverse O water, and add a TINY TINY bit of fertilizer to it. IF you use the soft water, it contains Sodium, which will build up over time. If you repot annually or so, then there is NO problem using the soft water. But you will have to repot evetually. Ex Culligan man.
make sure you let the water sit for a day
I agree with Russbow. I was told (by the installers) when we got our soft water system not to water plants with it. We even had to run a hard water line to the back yard for the garden. I also consulted a nurseryman who said not to use the soft water for the garden.
