Yes .Use a good potting mix for vegetables and a large pot to allow for the root system.

Yes! I did that all the time before we bought a house (and some-like tomatoes--I still prefer to grow in containers!).

yes, i have done so for the last 2 years. a few seed companies are now marking the seed packages as "good for containers". i will warn you tho....it's not as inexpensive as an in ground garden. you will need containers of min. 5 gal for tomatoes and peppers, egg plant. the onions are in a 6 inch deep tarp like grow bed, doing fine, the leaf- veggies spinach , lettuce did well in a similar style grow bed. all containers get filled with a grow medium, not reg. dirt. my yard is filled with evergreen type trees and roots are everywhere.

I always grow mine in pots.....advantages are greatcan be moved if getting too much or not enough sun....soil quality is much better depending on where you live....in Florida there is no "dirt" the ground is sand and most vedgies will not grow in it.

Thank you for your response. We live in desert which is more difficult to grow vegetables.

i'd suggest water absorbing gel crystals as an addition to your potting soil. they will help to keep the plants moist. if the sun gets to hot- shade cloth remnants over pcv pipe cubes.

An inexpensive way to grow vegetables on a deck or patio is by using the bag of potting soil and just plant the veggies directly in there. No need for pots or other containers.
