How do you get huge moms out of the pot to plant

It seems when you try to plant them, you destroy them by breaking them off all over the place . Do u wait until they are dormant . Can I winter them in the garage instead and plant them in the spring ?

Mums need to be planted now.Gently turn the pot over and use a utensil to aid int the removal out of the pot -

Poke up from bottom of pot with a stick to release....... -
