I am very new to gardening. What is the advantage of raised beds?

One of the obvious answers is you don't have to crawl around on your hands and knees. Is it better because of the compost and new soil you put in? Is it more for plants that need better drainage? Like I said I am new to all of this and hope my questions are not to basic. Thanks for your help.

Hi Cherie, what I love about my raised bed is because I brought the soil in it was not already filled with grass and weed seeds so there is so much less weeding to do!

I have had raised beds for about five years. The soil warms faster. Also since you don't walk in the beds, the soil does not compact like in traditional garden beds. Good luck.

instead of raised beds I plant my tamatoes & peppers in plastic containers placed far enough apart to walk betwee. Just be sure to make drain holes in them

You don't need a tiller to till up the soil and break it up, you just put in potting soil of some sort, and it is easier to plant, weed etc.

It helps to work in tha soil without hurting your back. I think it makes t easier to keep weeds out and to build up the soil.

I cannot squat at all, and bending is very painful. Having planters at just below waist height means I can garden a little. I can’t wait until Good Friday to plant some things, and I am doing seed starters in the house. What do you want to get out of your gardening experience? That’s what you should plan for. ☺️
