Indoor garden- any ideas?

I have an indoor wading pool/fountain area in my entryway. It is 8' x9' square. I would like to make it into a succulent zen garden. Possibly with colored rocks. Would i need to have grow lights? Would succulents be the easiest plant to survive. I think that i would keep them in pots, or possibly plant them in flats. Any ideas?

    Yes they do need light

  • They need minimal light, you could use succulents and other indoor plants like bamboo palm, pothos, philodendron. Neither if these much light, they like low filtered light. As long as you have a window or two they will thrive

They do need light or they start turning yellow. If the area doesn't get light don't bother you will get frustrated. Since you mentioned zen how about some large rocks maybe 3 tall ones and either sand or white rocks on the bottom at least light on the bottom in the base will reflect some light. The tall ones can be grouped together as a sculpture to add height. I would stay away from plants though. Now one question, obviously it held water which is heavy, but how much weight can that structure hold before your floor starts to sag and crack? If you have an unfinished lower level you can have an structural engineer come out for a few to tell you what you can actually have without damage to your home.

thanks for the suggestions. Right now it is filled with rocks, and a big fountain, so i think it can hold the weight.
