this is when you need an arborist or tree surgeon if you will. Contact the county extension office see if they have one on staff. Itā€™s usually free for a consultation. Iā€™m thinking itā€™s a bug under the bark.....I could be wrong..

It may be Pine Bark Beetles. The bore inside of pine trees that get stressed due to drought and they eat it from the inside out. Our neighborhood has lost quite a few pine trees to these beetles. I now use Bayer Tree and Shrub and treat my trees about once every year or two in the summer and haven't had any more issues. I use the concentrate and mix it with water, per the directions, and poor it directly on the area around the tree. This treats the trees and kills any insects inside the tree...and the trees love it. I'm not sure if this is your problem, but it definitely was mine.

I agree with Mcphlps. Pine bark beetles have devastated forests in this country and this year is no exception. Sure hope it's not too late for your trees.

I live in the Piney Woods and one of the biggest threats to our pine trees are the pine beetle. Infestation spreads from tree to tree.
