Replanted piece....did I do it right?

Yesterday while looking for plants and there was a peace of a plant that looked healthy, I asked if I could take it they said yes so I brought it home and replanted it in a cactus well draining soil but I am not sure I did it correctly.........

The larger piece looks good, it should start sprouting roots in a couple of weeks if you water correctly. For the smaller pieces, I'd suggest laying them on their side instead of pushing the end into the soil. When their ends are pushed in they tend to rot instead of grow. Instead, place them on top of the soil, curved end up, and they should make a small flower on the top surface and shoot roots out from the bottom. Good luck!

Succulents spread pretty easily, so I agree that they should be ok.

I picked up a few pieces of the floor at one of the home stores and brought them home and stuck them in a small cup of dirt and they are already putting out babies. They are so easy to grow!

Just keep it moist buy not overly because mold can grow at least here in FL. My Mom has them growing in the open jar pot and they look so pretty. I will try to find out what they are?

Yes, just lay them on top of the dirt. I know, it sounds strange but I've tried both and had much better success with just putting them there! I wrote an article about it not long ago: http://lavendeandlemonade.blogspot.com/2013/12/5-simple-steps-for-starting-succulents.html

Your succulent is an Echeveria. If you Google it, you will see dozens of pictures on the various websites. They prefer bright light and dryer soil. Be careful....succulents are very addictive!

Did the ends dry out before you planted? they should with little hairs roots coming out. Also I found out the hard way you should plant them in dryish soil and don't water til they are rooted
