Actually, these "mushrooms" are fungus fruiting bodies which indicate that there is a fungus disease within the tree. Without seeing the tree to indicate the size and number of fruiting bodies, it is difficult to determine the extent of the damage. If there are only one or two, a scraping of the bark beneath them could reveal what is underneath. You might want to take a phone snapshot and show it to someone at a local nursery or garden center. I will post a photo or take one by a nursery. They grow on the trunk then fall off. This tree has grown around a Ponderosa pine an it is in bloom at current time (flowering)
