what are the the veggies that you want to grow? tomatoes, peppers both sweet and hot, kale, peas, brussel sprouts, lettuce, cabbage, potatoes, turnips, rutabaga, zucchini, cucumbers, carrots, radish, horse radish, onions, spaghetti squash, egg plant have all grown in my grow bags or other containers. the corn grew, but it was just decorative- not edible.. not so much luck with water melon or cantaloupe either. several seed companies have started to mark their packages with a graphic of a potted plant indicating good for containers.. many seed catalogs will have a section high lighting their seed varieties for container gardening. pick the ones you want to try, research a bit on how to mix or choose the growing medium for the containers, how much fertilizer and when to use it, how much water it will need. btw... i live in Iowa it's about as Midwest as it can get!

It's mostly about their cleverly designed barrel containers, but there is a section about what mix they put in their containers for growing. (they have a secret ingredient!)
