What size pots should I use for my Trumpet Vine. I have a red & pink.

Keep on enjoying hometalk. It's fun, fun, fun...
Trumpet vine roots in soil, I discovered on line, are extremely invasive. I don't want my vines to become pot bound. Can you help me? I have a small flat & concrete rear yard.

Use at least a 15 gallon container. Wine barrel halves are a great choice!

  • What size plants do you have? I would also add in a small trellis for them to grow on.

I'd use a plastic half barrel planter! I planted one in my flower bed not knowing it was invasive and found out the hard way. Have completely dug it up and it still comes back. It climbs up my entire 2 story house in less then a couple of months so we have it cut it off often and it has now spread to my front hard as well as other places in both the front and back yard. Guess somehow birds are propagating it. Wish I'd never ran across this vine!

That is not a Trumpet/Hummingbird Vine. It looks like a Mandevilla. Apples & oranges!

The plant I see in the picture is not a trumpet vine. The latin name always helps to recognize plants. That is a tropical plant probably mandeville. In what area do you live? If you have to grow that plant inside for the winter, then you should not have problems of spreading.Campsis, also called Trumpet Vine or Trumpet Creeper, can be yellow or salmon color and it can go places . I have a good one that does not spread. It is a hybrid.

Hi: Is that picture from your plant? In that case you have a Mandeville , or Mandevilla. You can google it to know what you can do.In Canada we have to grow it inside during the winter, so we do not get spreading problems.

If it is the other Trumpet vine, Campsis, the species can be very invasive, but the nurseries in your area may have modern hybrids that do not spread.

    Good luck.
