What vegetables would grow well in a vertical garden?

I want to add more vegetable garden space, but I have a small yard. I am thinking about making a vertical garden. I am thinking about building something like the picture, which can be found on bonnieplants.com. I do not have a wall or fence to attach it to, so I want something free-standing. Most of the vertical gardens that I have seen are for herbs or flowers. I want to use this for vegetables, or maybe fruit. I don't have any interest in growing herbs. Does anyone know what vegetables would grow well in something like this?

if you want tomatoes, runner beans, cukes, sugar baby water melon, cantaloupe- you can use large pot or grow bags and trellis.
