DIY Hanging Terra Cotta Pots

I love terra cotta pots and I especially love having plants inside the house, but I get real sick of always trying to find a new space to set another pot. I either don't have enough counter space or there's not enough room in front of the few windows I have that get good light.

So I came up with this little planter that I can hang in front of the window without taking up counter space - perfect!

You will need some terra cotta pots, some heavier wire (mine was about 2' long and I only used about 18" - the length is also flexible), a wire cutter and a pliers. If you want to use one pot you can - if you want to use 3 pots you can! These are so flexible.

Start by taking the end of your wire and with your pliers, bend an "L" shape to it. This is what is going to keep your bottom pot from falling off of the wire. The "L" shape should be a little bit wider than the hole on the bottom of your pot.
Once you have the end bend, put your pot onto the wire and let it drop all the way down to the "L" shape at the bottom of the wire.

Now decide about how high up you want your next pot to sit.  Once you have decided on the spot, take your pliers and again make another "L" shape, those this one will look a bit different.  See my picture above.  You are basically bending the wire so that again, the pot doesn't fall through the hole and stays in it's place.
Now decide how much wire you want on the top of your pot. Then take your wire cutter, cut off the excess wire and then bend a loop or a hook at the top so that you have a way to hang your pots.

At this point, hang your planter from something and see how the pots "lay" on the wire. If one is laying too much at an angle, bend the wire a bit inside the pot so that it stays more up. Just bend the wire around until you have them laying how you like them.
Then add in your plants! I've been missing the AZ desert lately, so I choose a tiny little cactus and a succulent for my pots. Then once they are potted, give them some water and hang them up. Depending on what plants you choose, you could use this planter inside, outside, on your porch - wherever! Aren't they adorable?!
