The BEST Plant Ties!
Hi Hometalkers! I am back with another project using Sugru. This one is for your garden. I saw these plant ties on the Sugru site and thought they looked like an awesome idea. I made a set, and now I am hooked -- they work great!
Update: I noticed a few comments below about using rubber-wrapped wire instead. I have used this in the past and still use it for some plants. The reason why I prefer these is that they truly will flex as the plant grows. The rubber wrapped wire does not (at least not the type I have used), because of the rigid wire in the middle.
I use one pack of Sugru to make two ties, but you can make the ties larger or smaller, depending on the size of your plant and trellis.
Sugru has a Play-doh like texture. All you need to do is warm the Sugru between your hands, and then shape it into an oblong blob.
Next, use your hand to roll it out into a "snake". This is best done on a hard surface, like the kitchen counter.
After that, loosely wind it around a pencil, marker, or any other object that has the diameter you would like.
Let dry for 24 hours, then slide it off.
I made these in green and brown, but they would be fun done in bright colors, too, if you want them to stand out on your plant.
Here's the plant I wanted to tie up:
All I did was wind the flexible Sugru tie around the plant and trellis to hold it in place - so easy! I love that these are reusable. You can even make them when you are using Sugru for something else, and have little bits leftover.
If you make something with Sugru, be sure to share! I'd love to see it. And please follow me on Instagram and/or Facebook for lots of other DIY/home decor/healthy living ideas!
Happy "making"!
Xo,
Jamey

Have a question about this project?
If you purchased those obelisks online, I'd be interested in the link. I am looking for one like that smaller one.
I love the look of this to tie up your plants. It looks as if it came from a grapevine wreath. Also do you have instructions for the wall hanging that is pictured behind your beautiful ivy? It is exactly what I've been looking for. I would absolutely love it if you could share instructions. Thanks for posting. Lis
