I had been seeing these planted wire mannequins on Pinterest and wanting one for myself. Once I saw how much they were to buy that wasn't going to work for me. So I figured out a way to make my own from two tomato cages!
I used two tomato cages. The most important thing is you need the middle ring of the smaller cage to be the same size as the bottom ring of the largest cage.
I used two tomato cages. The most important part is making sure the bottom ring of the larger one is the same size as the middle ring of the smaller one.
Next you trim the stakes off the bottom of the larger cage and trim off everything below the middle ring of the smaller cage. A dremel tool and cut-off disc is very helpful for this step because the wire is thick and hard to cut with just wire cutters.
I added some more wire to the top to make the bodice shape.
Then I stretched chicken wire over the tomato cages and formed it to the frame.
It took a lot of moss to fill the frame. 5 1/2lb bags plus a bag of soil. I worked in layers, mossing and filling until it was done.
I'm pleased with the end result.

What do you do with this in the winter? It looks like you used almost all annuals, so is the cost of the plants the same for the following year?

Beautiful, but how do you water it without it making a mess?
