Are You Lucky Enough to Grow Brussel Sprouts in the Summer?
I used to hate brussel sprouts. I thought they were bitter and rarely cooked them. But then I discovered how roasting and grilling brings out their natural sweetness and have come to love them.
Alas, here in NC, they don't do so well for me. I have yet to get either a spring or fall crop from them. My soil is better this year, so I am going to plant some in August and hope.
Brussel sprouts are easy to grow as long as you pay attention to the fact that they really do not like heat. If you get them in too late in the spring and your summers are hot, they will bolt and the sprouts will end up bitter.
My sister lives in Maine and this is her crop of brussel sprouts from last year. I just drooled when I saw this picture!

I think fall is the best time. I do have some small sprouts forming right now but they are staying small, so I am not sure what will happen with them.

I just got some brussels sprouts plants today; they are about 4inches tall now, will put them in the rise bed in March, and hoping I will some nice sprouts.
