I checked on my fave heirloom seed provider.no go...,but it comes down to what consumers want....many in the u.s. are used to having commercially grown potato -any veg not "The right color" is suspicious.

  • Where do you live? Hannahs and Jewel are typically what I find at my local markets - but not all markets carry them. The big box chain grocery store closest to my house only carries Jewel. I need to go to a different market chain to find the Hannahs. Sometimes I have to shop several markets to find items I want or need. While I understand markets can only carry so many items at a time, I think the entire food chain is askew, but that is a topic for another time.

"Back in the day" all markets carried fresh "prune plums" during their very short season. Now only one market carries them - in the 3 or 4 weeks they are available I buy lots and freeze as well as gobble as many as I can stuff into my tummy.

Maybe chat with the store manager and see what's up, and try different markets in your area?

Ask the produce manager to order you some, my Safeway market will order all the weird California stuff I eat that isn't popular in the PNW.

Not regular items on the coastal boonies in Oregon. Yeah whats up with not having large curd cottage cheese anymore.... its like it disappeared off the face of the earth.
