How do you prepare potatoes for planting?

    make sure they are organic and have not been sprayed so they won't grow(if you get from store) put in ground; here's bunch of videos on growing them

    I used to buy "seed" potatoes and cut them into a few pieces - with at least one eye in each section. Put in ground and hill up with dirt. You can also place them on the ground and cover with hay. Keep adding dirt of hay as the plant grows. Frankly, potatoes are cheap and I don't see the cost benefit of growing them.

    I just let the potatoes I have bought sprout eyes, cut a chunk of spud with the eye, put it in the ground or pot 3-4 " deep, and it will make little spuds.
