How much room do I need to plant corn, broccoli as well as potatoes.

i live in Charlotte NC area and I am looking to grow my own next season. Right now I grow green beans, tomatoe, peppers, lettuce and radishes in a raised bed. Im want to expand not using raised bed.

    George ... in my personal opinion, corn isn't worth the space it takes up -- you only get 2-3 ears per stalk ... and in season when the farmers markets or local store have at .10 an ear you can buy a whole bushel for less than what it takes to grow your own. Broccoli is a cool weather crop and and will be gone before your potatoes are ready -- they will take more room than the corn - but are well worth the effort. I'd plan on 1 plant / 3' diameter area for white potatoes, more for red skin if you want to pull them as 'new' potatoes ( less than 2" diameter )

    Corn is not easy to grow, you need tons of space to get little results. Also consider cucumbers (very easy) and squash.

    I live near by you The best thing is to go to your county Agricultural Agent . https://mecklenburg.ces.ncsu.edu/sustain/ .......they are having classes and information on sustainable living[ gardens]. Also use the NC State State is our agricultural college

    24 years outside of Philly What part of NJ Dad ran a business in Trenton years ago lived in Tuckerton NJ for a year know Hopewell NJ too. 36 years in different parts of NC

    George, I agree with the others that corn isn't worth growing. One broccoli plant takes up around a foot of space. Potatoes about the same. I grew potatoes in grow bags for several years and that worked really well.
