How to stop tomatoes from getting tall and lanky when growing your own

Janet, Thanks for the info. I already knew about trimming the plants after they are growing in the garden, as I do this every year. I just have trouble with them after I've transplanted them and before going in the garden.

Do the terminate types not get so leggy in the early stages? I don't have a lot of options on where they are for growing purposes, but they do have a greenhouse with grow lights and also an East facing window right behind them.

I don't use any fertilizer on my young plants. They do have some included in the potting soil though.

Usually they get at least 8 or more hours of sun or grow light a day.

On overcast days I turned the grow light on, otherwise there's plenty of light coming in from the east. I checked my tomato packets and one is terminate and the other is indeterminate. They both get really leggy and reach the top of the greenhouse roof before they get sturdy on the bottom.
