This Ikea desk drawer makeover is one crazy easy project to take on. You will be able to have it done in one day and it will completely transform the look of your old drawer.

This Ikea drawer was handed to me a while ago. It was going to go to the trash and I decided to take it.

The problem was that I don’t really like the orange color on the drawers but since it was free, I thought that I might be able to transform it and make it more me by changing the color a little bit and who knows something else?

I’ve heard so many times that chalk paint is the best paint because you don’t even need to prime or sand so I thought that would be my first go.

So the first thing to do is disassemble the drawer fronts. Even though chalk paint doesn't require sanding I did sand the fronts a little bit to expose pores.

Then clean well the drawer fronts to remove any residues of dirt and dust.

In a ventilated area I protected with plastic and paper the surface where I was going to paint. I painted the drawer fronts with black chalk paint spray. It took about 3 coats to fully cover the orange.

After the paint was fully dry (I let it rest overnight) I sealed it with spray varnish. Once dry, carefully I put it back on the drawers.

This was the easiest makeover ever and we loved how it turned out as this desk drawer was going to be part of our special office/guest room makeover we were working on.

There you go!

The before... A bright and childish orange...

And the after... a mate black and a gorgeous looking desk drawer now!
