First Experience With Homemade Chalk Paint

I got this maple desk at a yard sale for $40. To give it a make over I began by sanding off the top .
I wanted the perfect navy color for this project but had been unable to find one. So I decided to make my own. I had heard about homemade chalk paint for a long time but never found a reason to try it till now .
I mixed calcium carbonate with latex paint in the Benjamin Moore color Hale Navy. It took two coats of paint and two coats of clear wax to achieve this finish .

This is the exact shade of Navy that I have been searching for. I am redoing a couple of Sauder bookcases and will leave the shelves and top in their original oak finish. I've never used chalk paint before. Could you be a little more informative about the recipe you used for homemade chalk paint?
