"Flynn Family 5 Collection" - Furniture Revival / Recycle

Medium
A darling young family moving to a new-build wanted to change a few of their current pieces to suit. So while y'all were at the cottage, resorts and with friends and family over the long weekend, I kept company with 5 pieces of
Having three children under 5 Sarah requested the finish on all units be somewhat "distressed" so that little dings and bumps wouldn't be apparent or fussed over. (What an amazingly thoughtful mother :) ) The challenge was in keeping the as sophisticated as the owners yet rough enough for everyday use by a family of 5. Time and tons of layering went into making it work. Multiple coats of were applied, removed and then re-applied. and hits of the blue found her desired palette were added to each piece to provide uniformity and the feeling of a collection. Numerous layers of wax (both light and dark) finalized them to a diamond hard finish whilst adding depth.
Desk detail
Sarah's handy dad removed the top two drawers of a vintage desk to accommodate media equipment - brilliant! As I was staging it, I realized just how many spaces it would suit over the years; a vanity in the bathroom to house toiletries, towels and with a mirror above it, a preening station. It could be used by the children to do homework whereby the two open spaces could be used as recharging stations. Lot's of options here.
The surface was decorated with a contemporary, leafy motif in a lighter tone of the white and distressed. The balance was finished to a silky smoothness.
No matter the age or determined finish, a bit o' shine here and there makes it much more attractive and interesting. Repeated waxing and buffing results in this effect.
before & after
A pedestal table took on new life when the old orange pine was blanketed in a rich white and distressed with knocks & dents to imitate years of use.
A hand rendered motif was applied to the centre of the table using various tones of the white and blue.
Before & After
The nesting tables were also dotted with the blue accent colour and a monochromatic motif.
before & after
Sarah's daughter was also included in the revamp - An antique mirror was brought current and fit for a Princess! First time I've used purple and pink and it won't be the last!
