Scrape them down with a spackling knife.
We sanded our walls to remove light texture.
Uuhhh, messy job but so well worth it. My son used a spray bottle of water just to dampen it and it scrapped with ease. A good sanding and we were ready to go.
Or cover it with mineral ciment, or a naturel mix of sand, lime and color.
Or cover it with plaster, mineral ciment or a lime based mix, with color in. Or a base then wax polish (look in your paint shop for decorative finishes
