Paint inside paneling white. Use small scale furnishings and don't use to much furniture so it won't look crowded. Replace lighting with new light fixtures. We tiled our bathrooms and kitchen floors. New carpet. Use light colors and keep the color theme throughout the rooms close or the same. Out side, keep it painted, add shutters and a screened in porch if possible.

Janet is absolutely correct. Short answer without pictures would be, pretty much the same way you renovate any older home. Start room by room, removing what doesn't work or is broken, replacing with new more modern items if you also want to update. If you want to restore it then search for used items in local salvage and a Habitat ReStore if you have one.
