When I used to rent I changed the lights, door knobs and the knobs in the kitchen and bath, however, I kept the old stuff and when I moved out I put the old stuff back on.

You can place your focus on having beautiful personal things, like potted colorful plants in your rooms. Nice scents using essential oils, so it smells lovely when you enter. Maybe purchase some LED bulbs to replace regular ones to brighten you kitchen and living areas. Colorful art work on the walls that you can create yourself. You can even cover cardboard boxes with fabric you love and use them for storage or cover cardboard and hang on the walls. Once you do a couple of things, more creative ideas may come into your mind. I sometimes find a saying of some sort while shpping and type it out and print it out on paper just to enjoy for a while. Settle in and make it yours. Many colorful items can be found at the DollarTree that won't be very expensive that can lift your spirits. Also, music can be a huge part of making your place feel good to you.

One thing I did was paint. I agreed to paint again upon moving out if requested. Ultimately my color choices were not too extreme and I didn’t have to.

You can do anything that you want as long as it is removable and will be the same as when you moved in. As Karla suggested, changing out hardware is a good place to make things look better and change them back when you move out. You can also change the way your own things look to make it look better with the color the house is painted. Brighten things up with artificial plants if you don't want real plants. If you can hang pictures, do so, but make sure the holes in the walls are ok as long as you fill them in before you move, I would ask the landlord just what you are allowed to do.

The removable stick on wall decorations are wonderful! Colorful accessories like curtains, throw pillows, and arrangements make a huge difference. Rugs tool Use contact hooks that won't damage walls for artwork and don't forget welcome mats and doorwreaths for added creativity! Plants are great too, inside and out!
