My 5 year old daughter is very particular in what she likes and doesn't like. This chest in her room was no exception. I originally painted it this pretty green because it matched some of the accents in her room but green is a no-go in her room now. It has to be pink or purple.

So when I asked her what type of pink or purple she’d like it to be painted, she wanted the same purple that is in her curtain we have for the closet doors.

Trying to match the curtain to paint swatches, and purchasing samples to her liking seemed like a waste of time and money. Instead I partnered with Datacolor to easily pick the paint color that best matches this flower petal in her curtain with their ColorReader EZ

This little gadget is convenient and very easy to use!

How to use the Datacolor ColorReader EZ

  • Download the Datacolor ColorReader App on your smartphone.
  • Turn on the device by pushing the green button.
  • Place the device on any flat surface with the color you want to match and either tap "read" on the app or click the green button on the device.
  • The top 3 paint colors that match the color you're trying to achieve will pop up on your app.
  • You can even filter by paint brand, save the color to your "palette" on the app, and find coordinating colors.

The color from Molly's curtain came back as Grape Harvest by Sherwin Williams. From the app it looked like a great match so I was confident heading to my local paint store and purchasing it.

Getting home and opening the paint, it looked perfect! I was excited to get started.

Painting the chest took no time at all. I removed the knobs, gave it a quick wipe down and painted with a regular angled brush.

I painted two coats and let it cure for a few days before adding these mermaid inspired knobs my daughter picked out on Amazon.

The color was absolutely perfect and my daughter was so excited. She loved the color!

ColorReader EZ is really useful. It’s so portable that you can even carry it around when you're out and about and see a color that inspires you. You can use it to capture a color instantly and save it to incorporate in your own home.

The ColorReader EZ will make choosing a paint color for your next project hassle-free and fun!

beautiful match! Does this color reader do more than tell you a paint color? It would really be helpful if it could "compare" one color to another as if you already had some fabric and you wanted to match another item or fabric to that color.

I priced it at $49 US on amazon. I think I will just have have my paint store scan the match for me. Always nice to know about new technology, though. :-)
