Charleston 'Cozy Coastal' Kitchen Renovation

South Cypress
by South Cypress
Jane purchased a fixer-upper as her first home and it took about 4 months for the entire house renovation. While she had professional contractors complete the renovation, Jane and her husband wanted to contribute by installing the kitchen backsplash themselves.

Once the cabinets and countertop were installed, Jane removed all outlet covers to prepare the backsplash area for mortar application.

Jane's home design concept was "Cozy Coastal" which is perfect for an area such as Charleston, South Carolina. They put a lot of time into researching products and materials to get the best price for what they were envisioning.

Jane chose a glass subway tile from SouthCypress.com because it was exactly the color and size she wanted at a great price. The cool blue Aqua color helped continue the coastal theme into the kitchen space.

While Jane says they were "inexperienced tile installers", we think they did an outstanding job and you would never know this wasn't a professional installation. Although they originally thought it would take 2 days working evenings to complete the backsplash, it ended up taking 4 days from start to finish.

Some tips from Jane:

"Make sure to have a pro tile installer give you some helpful tips and watch some online how-to videos. Also, make sure to read the mortar and grout directions carefully for drying times."

Now Jane has a stunning space for entertaining and a backsplash that is sure to impress.

When paired with white cabinets and stainless fixtures, this backsplash is simply amazing.
