Crisp, Clean Kitchen

This 1938 traditional Minneapolis home on the border of Edina, was extremely well kept and had charming historical details. Although the kitchen, breakfast and sitting rooms had very good correlation, they needed "spicing up".
The limited amount of 4x4” tile backsplash at the perimeter was replaced with classic white subway tile spreading out from baseboard to ceiling cove, including up and around the windows at the sink. Contrasting gray grout between the bright tiles was used to complement the now painted gray island.
Bringing in the architectural details throughout the home was vital in enhancing this project, & one of the driving factors was to replace the old appliances with new stainless steel that were both wider & taller. We modified existing cabinetry, & created custom doors, drawers, & panels to seamlessly match.
Hand-made cabinet panels were added to the island & perimeter base cabinet ends. New countertop support brackets as well as a finished underside to the overhang was created. Adding dimmers on all existing overhead lighting allowed for ambiance. A pullout trash receptacle, new soft-close door and drawer hardware, along with new decorative knobs & pulls, a fresh coat of paint & new furniture completed the changes!
Without changing the countertops, hardwood flooring, or plumbing fixtures, all the other seemingly minor changes described herein served to mold the sitting, breakfast and kitchen into welcoming, timeless and an engaging space.
