To begin with, I live in a small 946 sq. ft. home in Southern California. My kitchen is small. I was tired of the boring light maple cabinets and the laminate flooring. They were similar in color and just seemed washed out. I had got an estimate to repaint the cabinets only for an astounding price of 2500.00! I was in shock and so disappointed. So I thought I could just do this on my own. I really wanted a high gloss look and also the 2 tone look that I had seen in several other homes.
I was set on white on top and blue on the bottom. I already had the backsplash and granite countertops that had a blue speck in it. You hardly notice the backsplash in the old photos, but it pops in the new one. So I took off all the doors and drawers as well as all the hardware. I washed them with TSP only. I had a visual of the color that I wanted.
I talked to the guy at the hardware store and asked if Spray paint would work. I'm talking about paint in a can. He told me when ever I use a high gloss paint to spray one length of the item and stop then go back the other way. In other words don't do a continual spray. Always stop after each spray. So I chose a rustoleum French blue high gloss paint with primer.
I then took the top of the can and matched it to a color of blue that was very close. I only got a sample of it to test and since I didn't have that much of an area to paint , that was all I needed. It cost 1.99 for the sample. The cans for the cabinet doors and drawer facings were on a 2 for 1 sale and I needed 4 cans of the blue and 8 cans of the white.
I also painted some storage cabinets in the laundry area that I don't have pics of. The walls of the white area and the 2 shelves were all I needed to paint with a roller and it took 1 quart of gloss white to do that.  So my total cost was 40.17 cents!!

Did you remove the hinges and paint them separately? I will be spraying my cupboards this summer and want to have everything planned ahead of time. Thanks

thank you! The fact that I was able to lay the pieces flat to spray was the reason I didn't have any runs. Stopping the spray after each spray was another reason.
