I bought 6 barstools from a Beer Joint on Galveston Island for $35 each. They were filthy and stunk but they are sturdy and solid wood with red leather seats. I loved them at first sight!

Two of the completed Beer Joint Barstools.

I took each barstool apart and scrubbed each one with a bucket of TSP and water. I changed out the solution at least 3 times for each barstool. They were filthy! I do want to tell you that taking these babies apart and putting them back together was a nightmare!

The leather seats were surprisingly in excellent condition! I scrubbed them and decided to keep the original red leather.

Before Barstool

I didn't pay for the Milk Paint because I'm a member of the Home Depot Seeds Program. They send me free products to try every once in awhile. You might want to check it out. Great Program. I spent 13.99 on the Folk Art Clear Wax.

After Barstool

I used Rust-oleum Milk Paint in Classic White that has a Matte Brushed Finish. I used 1 quart for all the barstools. I applied 4 coats on each barstool. I finished them off with Folk Art Home Decor Clear Wax.

When I waxed, I had to be sure that the wax wasn't pooled in the corners because if it did, it would be yellow by morning. I scraped off wax in the corners that yellowed, repainted and re-waxed on the first one and afterwards I was very careful to wipe the wax down before I left it to dry.

I purchased the flooring from Home Depot on sale! The island/counter top was given to me by an elderly male neighbor years ago. It's extremely heavy. I saved the top because I loved it! It's made of (mesquite tree's) which are in abundance in Texas. Mesquite trees are ugly and stubby. They are used by Texans to flavor meat while cooking on an outdoor grill.

The bottom of the island/counter is made from 4 extra bottom cabinets I purchased from Home Depot.
