My mother-in-law gave me this 4-drawer cabinet when she sold her house. I thought it had good bones, but didn't care for the tiled top, and it just didn't fit in with my decor. I finally got around to updating it this winter with a little help from my husband making me the new wooden top.
It was time to bring this cabinet out of the 90's!
First to go was the ceramic-tiled top.
I wanted to add contrast from the body and drawers, so decided to crackle-paint just the drawers. I used a dark chocolate-brown as the under color.
Finished with the chalk painting and crackle finishing. I haven't dark-waxed it all yet, and it's still without a new top.
The finished project. I reused the original drawer pulls and chose to forego any type of wood stain on the top, and instead clear-coated it with 3 coats of lacquer to tie in with the lightness of the drawer pulls.
